Choosing a Turret or VNA Truck
Turret trucks, also called very narrow aisle trucks, rotate the forks instead of the whole machine, so they place pallets in aisles as tight as the pallet itself plus clearance. Capacity sits around 1 to 1.6 tonne, with lift heights well above conventional reach trucks.
VNA is a building decision as much as a machine decision. The aisles usually need guidance, the floor needs to meet a flatness standard, and the racking layout is fixed around the truck. That makes it worth confirming floor and guidance before the machine is selected, not after.
Before you choose, check:
- Floor flatness certified to the standard the truck requires
- Wire or rail guidance installed along every aisle
- Top beam height and residual capacity at that height
- Transfer aisle width for moving between racking runs
- Operator training, which differs from counterbalance licensing
