Choosing a Tow Tractor
Tow tractors pull trailer trains instead of carrying loads, which moves far more material per trip than a forklift can. Our range covers draw bar ratings from 1 tonne up to 40 tonne, covering everything from airport baggage work to heavy plant movement.
The rating to check is towed weight on your worst gradient, not on flat ground. Trailer type matters as well: fixed drawbar trains track differently from steered trailers, and tight corners can make a long train unworkable. Count the trailers you actually need to pull at once before choosing a model.
Before you choose, check:
- Total towed weight, loaded, on the steepest part of the route
- Number of trailers in the train and how they track around corners
- Indoor or outdoor duty, which points to electric or combustion drive
- Coupling type matched to your existing trailers
- Operator position: seated for long runs, stand on for frequent stops
