Side loaders for sale: long loads in narrow aisles
A side loader carries long loads such as timber, steel, pipe and poles along its length instead of across the front, so it can travel down a narrow aisle or into cantilever racking that a standard forklift could not turn into with the same load. DJJ Equipment sells two Hangcha side loaders: an electric multidirectional model for sheds and warehouses and a diesel side loader for yards.

- X Series Multidirectional Side Loader 3-4.5 t: electric, with an 80V lithium or lead-acid battery, 3,000-4,500 kg at a 600 mm load centre and lift heights up to 8 m, still carrying 2,000-2,500 kg at that height.
- IC Side Loader 3-6 t: diesel, 3,000-6,000 kg at a 600 mm load centre, with a 3.6 m standard mast and lift heights up to 6 m, and Xinchai or Yuchai engines of 45-67 kW in China GB III or EU Stage V versions.
Multidirectional or conventional side loader?
The multidirectional model drives forwards, sideways or turns on the spot, with turning radii of 2,388 mm in straight mode, 2,485 mm sideways and 1,675 mm in 360 degree mode. It works like a forklift for pallets and like a side loader for long loads, so one truck can cover both jobs indoors. The diesel side loader reaches out with a side-mounted mast, picks the load and sets it on its deck for travel, which suits heavier packs and outdoor yards. It is 2,040-2,100 mm wide with turning radii of 4,255-4,700 mm, and the Stage V 5-6 t models climb 30% laden.
How to choose a side loader
Start with the heaviest pack and its length, then check the narrowest aisle, doorway and rack opening on the route. Long loads that overhang the deck need support and securing, and capacity falls as the load centre moves out or the mast rises. Then match the power to the site: electric for sheds, warehouses and mixed indoor work, diesel for yards and rougher ground.
Side loader or forklift?
If your long loads only move short distances across an open yard, a counterbalance forklift with long forks and a fork positioner may do the job for less. Once the aisles get narrow or the loads get long, a side loader is the safer machine.
Licence, warranty and support
A side loader raises its forks well above 900 mm, so operators generally need a High Risk Work Licence in class LF; confirm with your state regulator. The side loader listings do not show a warranty figure yet, so confirm the warranty in writing with your quote. Both are listed for sale; ask our team about availability if you need one for a short job. Every machine we sell gets a pre-delivery inspection before it leaves us, and servicing, repairs and parts come from our branches in Silverwater, Meadowbrook and Bayswater, with on-site service within 50 km of each branch.

Should I choose an electric or diesel side loader?
DJJ lists an electric multidirectional side loader rated 3-4.5 t with lift up to 8 m, and a diesel side loader rated 3-6 t with lift up to 6 m. Diesel is normally an outdoor machine, while the electric unit avoids exhaust in sheds and warehouses.
What does a multidirectional side loader do differently?
A multidirectional side loader can travel sideways as well as forwards, so long loads such as timber, steel or pipe can move lengthways along narrow aisles. The X Series model is rated 3-4.5 t and lifts up to 8 m.
Do I need a forklift licence to drive a side loader?
A side loader raises its forks well above 900 mm, which places it within the forklift truck definition, so operators generally need a High Risk Work Licence class LF. Confirm current requirements with SafeWork NSW, WorkSafe Queensland or WorkSafe WA for the state where the machine works.
Does a long load reduce the side loader's rated capacity?
Rated capacity applies only at the stated load centre and lift height, so a load that sits further out, lifts higher or uses an attachment reduces what the machine can safely carry. Check the data plate and load chart against your heaviest long load before choosing a model.
