Choosing an Electric Tow Tractor
Electric tow tractors move trailer trains without exhaust emissions, which is what allows them to run inside warehouses, production halls and cold stores. Our range covers draw bar ratings from 1 tonne to 40 tonne.
Battery capacity is the deciding factor. Towing draws current continuously rather than in bursts, so run time is shorter than the same battery would give a forklift. Work out the total distance travelled per shift and the gradients on the route, then match the battery to that, allowing headroom for the trailers being fully loaded.
Before you choose, check:
- Distance travelled per shift, including return trips
- Gradients on the route with the train fully loaded
- Battery type: lithium for opportunity charging, lead acid for single shift
- Charging points located where the tractor parks between runs
- Coupling and trailer compatibility with your existing fleet
