Choosing an Aerial Work Platform
Aerial work platforms lift people and tools to height for maintenance, installation and stocktaking. The range covers vertical mast lifts for indoor work, scissor lifts for platform space at moderate height, and boom lifts where the work sits away from where the machine can stand.
Start from the working height and the ground the machine will stand on. Indoor electric machines are built for smooth floors and light weight; rough terrain models handle outdoor ground but are heavier and wider. Also check the outreach needed, since a scissor lift only goes straight up.
Before you choose, check:
- Working height, which is platform height plus about two metres
- Horizontal outreach, which decides scissor against boom
- Ground condition, slab loading and any slope
- Access route width, including doorways and lift dimensions
- Platform capacity for the operator, tools and materials
