Container reach stackers for sale: 45 t, diesel or electric

A container reach stacker lifts laden shipping containers with a spreader on a telescopic boom, so it can stack boxes several high and reach into the second and third rows of a stack. DJJ Equipment sells Hangcha 45 tonne reach stackers in diesel and high-voltage lithium for ports, intermodal terminals and container yards.

Our container reach stackers

  • X Series Reach Stacker 45T: diesel, with a Volvo TAD1181VE Stage V or TAD1151VE Stage IIIA engine of 265 kW, or a Cummins QSM11 of 250 kW, and a maximum lift of about 15.1 to 15.2 m.
  • XH Series Reach Stacker 45T: high-voltage lithium, with a 423 kWh or 560 kWh battery and a turning radius of 8,100 to 8,300 mm.

Capacity by row

The 45 tonne rating applies to the first row only. Both models lift 45 tonnes in row 1, 31 tonnes in row 2 and 16 tonnes in row 3, at load centres of 1,965, 3,815 and 6,315 mm. On the XH Series, the maximum lift falls from 15.1 m in row 1 to 13.6 m and 10.7 m in the rows behind. They stack up to 5 high in the first row. Size the machine by your heaviest box in the furthest row you need to reach, not by the headline figure.

Diesel or electric reach stacker?

The X Series diesel suits long shifts and sites without high-power charging, with a Stage V Volvo option where lower emissions matter. The XH Series produces no exhaust in the yard and runs quieter, but a 423 or 560 kWh battery needs a charging plan built around your shift pattern and a site power supply to match. Both weigh about 72 to 74 tonnes in service, so check pavement strength and turning space for either.

Reach stacker or empty container handler?

A reach stacker handles laden containers and can reach behind the first row. If most of your work is stacking empties, an empty container handler rated at 6 to 9 tonnes stacks higher for less, but it must never lift a laden box.

Licence, warranty and support

A reach stacker of more than 3 tonnes capacity with an attachment for lifting shipping containers needs a high risk work licence in class RS in NSW, Queensland and WA, separate from the LF forklift licence. Both reach stackers show a 24 month or 4,000 hour warranty on the product page, and every machine we sell gets a pre-delivery inspection before it leaves us. They are listed for sale, so ask our team about availability and transport options to your yard. Servicing, repairs and parts come from our branches in Silverwater, Meadowbrook and Bayswater, with on-site service within 50 km of each branch.

Not a walkie reach stacker

The name is shared with a very different machine. A walkie reach stacker is a 1.36 tonne warehouse truck for pallets, such as the A Series Reach Stacker (Warehouse Stacker) 1.36 t, and it has nothing to do with shipping containers.

Before you choose, check:

  • Heaviest laden container and the furthest row you reach
  • Stack height in the first row
  • Pavement strength and turning space
  • Diesel or electric, and site power for charging
  • Operators with an RS licence

Tell us your container weights, stack layout and shifts, and our team will recommend a reach stacker. Call 1800 355 388 or send an enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers before you speak with the team.

Is a container reach stacker the same as a walkie reach stacker?

No. The container reach stackers on this page are 45 t machines for handling laden shipping containers, while the walkie reach stacker is a 1.36 t warehouse machine for pallets that sits in the pallet stacker range.

Are electric container reach stackers available from DJJ?

Yes. Alongside the X Series 45 t reach stacker, DJJ Equipment lists the XH Series 45 t reach stacker with high-voltage lithium power. Talk to the team about charging infrastructure and your shift pattern before choosing between the two.

What licence is needed to operate a container reach stacker?

A reach stacker of more than 3 tonnes capacity with an attachment for lifting shipping containers needs a high risk work licence in class RS, which is separate from the LF forklift licence. The class applies in NSW, Queensland and WA, and the licence is issued by the state regulator after training with a Registered Training Organisation. Operators should also be trained on the specific machine.

What warranty comes with a Hangcha container reach stacker?

Both 45 t container reach stackers listed by DJJ show a warranty of 24 months / 4,000 hours on their product pages. Confirm the terms for your chosen model, and how servicing will be handled at your site, when you request a quote.

Should I choose a reach stacker or an empty container handler?

A container reach stacker handles laden containers, while an empty container handler is built for stacking empties, with the Hangcha models rated at 6 to 9 t. If your yard mostly moves empty boxes, ask the DJJ team to compare both machine types for your stack height.

Can I hire a container reach stacker or only buy one?

The container reach stackers on this page are sale listings, so ask the DJJ team about hire availability. For a purchase, DJJ doesn't run its own delivery service, so ask our team about transport options to your yard.
