Hangcha forklift review: are Hangcha forklifts any good?

In this article

Hangcha forklifts are a sound choice for most Australian warehouses and yards, as long as you buy from a dealer that holds parts and services them locally. Hangcha is one of the world's largest forklift makers, its lithium range is strong, and its machines usually cost less to buy than those from long-established Japanese and European brands. The trade-offs are a less predictable resale value, which shows up in the forklift trade-in value a dealer offers later, and support that depends on the dealer near you.

DJJ Equipment is an authorised Hangcha dealer, so read this as a dealer's review. We've kept to facts you can check: who makes the machines, what the warranty covers, where Hangcha falls short and what our customers say after buying.

Who makes Hangcha forklifts and where are they made?

Hangcha forklifts are made by Hangcha Group, a Chinese manufacturer based in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province. According to Hangcha, the company dates back to 1956, has been listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange since December 2016 and ranks among the top eight forklift makers in the world by revenue.

Scale matters for parts and model updates. In its 2023 results, Hangcha reported delivering more than 245,000 forklifts in the year, with capacity for about 400,000. Those are the manufacturer's own figures, but they show this isn't a small brand that could vanish in a few years.

What Hangcha forklifts do well

Hangcha forklifts do best on range, lithium power and purchase price.

One brand for almost every machine

Hangcha's range is wide enough that most sites can source every machine from one brand. The Hangcha models we sell run from 0.6 t three-wheel electric forklifts to 48 t high-voltage lithium trucks, plus reach trucks, order pickers, walkie stackers, pallet jacks, rough terrain forklifts and container handlers.

One brand across a fleet means one set of controls for operators to learn and one dealer for parts and service. If you're comparing electric forklifts, most capacities come with lithium, and the X Series also offers lead-acid.

Lithium and high-voltage electric forklifts

Lithium is where Hangcha is strongest. Hangcha and battery maker CATL set up a joint battery company in 2018, and most of the Hangcha electric and warehouse models we sell are lithium only.

The XH Series takes this further with a high-voltage battery built for sites replacing diesel and LPG trucks. The XH Series 2-3.8 t runs a 309V lithium battery that charges fully in about an hour, and its motors, controls and high-voltage parts are rated IP67.

Purchase price

A new Hangcha usually costs less to buy than a comparable machine from a long-established Japanese or European brand, and that gap is the main reason many buyers look at Hangcha in the first place. Compare written quotes on the same capacity, mast, battery and warranty, because a lower price only counts if the specification matches.

Where Hangcha forklifts fall short

Hangcha forklifts aren't the right pick for every buyer, and the weak points are worth knowing before you sign:

  • Resale value: the used market for Hangcha in Australia is smaller than for brands that have sold here for decades, so trade-in value is harder to predict.
  • Dealer support: a Hangcha is only as good as the parts stock and technicians near your site. Outside a dealer's service area, ask who handles breakdowns and how parts reach you.
  • Stock and lead times: common models are often in stock, but a special mast, a large XH truck or an unusual attachment may need to arrive by container, which takes longer.
  • Battery warranty: lithium battery cover differs by model, so get the battery terms in writing alongside the machine warranty.

Many of our Google reviewers say they were unsure about a Chinese brand before they bought. The way to test that doubt is the same for any brand: check the forklift warranty, the parts stock and the service team before you look at price.

Hangcha warranty, parts and service in Australia

Hangcha warranty in Australia depends on the machine, so check it for the exact model you're quoting. On our product pages, for example, the XA Series 2-3.8 t lists 24 months / 2,000 hours and the XH Series 12-18 t lists 24 months / 4,000 hours. Some lithium models also list a separate battery warranty, so read both lines.

Parts and servicing come from the dealer, not the factory. We hold parts stock and run workshops with in-house technicians at Silverwater NSW, Meadowbrook QLD and Bayswater WA, and every forklift is inspected, function-tested and cleaned before delivery.

After-sales support is where a dealer earns its keep. When dust affected the seat harness connection on a Hangcha lithium rough terrain forklift at Kimbriki Environmental Enterprises in Sydney, our team fitted a dedicated connection socket at no charge.

Which Hangcha series suits your site?

Hangcha electric counterbalance forklifts are grouped into series by power and capacity. The table shows the series we sell and our current capacity range for each.

The table doesn't rank the series by quality. Choose on capacity, lift height, battery and how many shifts you run, then compare the warranty for each model. For outdoor work, Hangcha also builds diesel and lithium rough terrain forklifts from 1.5 to 10 t.

What DJJ customers say about Hangcha forklifts

DJJ's three branches are rated 4.8 to 5.0 on Google as at 8 October 2026. A few reviews speak directly to what buyers ask about Hangcha.

The battery lasts a long time and charges super fast, so we never have to worry about downtime.

Tina G., Google review

That review is about a Hangcha 3.5 t lithium forklift, and the same reviewer calls the build quality solid and the customer service helpful.

It is good that we can book in to visit and try the actual forklift

Judy Z., Sydney

Trying a machine before you buy is the simplest test of any brand. Book a visit, drive it on the floor and ask to see the load chart for the mast you want.

Is a Hangcha forklift right for your business?

A Hangcha forklift makes sense if you want lithium power, a wide choice of capacities from one brand and a lower purchase price, and you're within reach of a dealer that stocks parts and services the brand.

Look harder at other options if resale value is a big part of your sums, or if your site is far from any Hangcha dealer and downtime would be costly. In those cases, get the service arrangement in writing before you compare prices.

If Hangcha is on your shortlist, tell us the load weight, lift height, floor or ground and how many hours a day you run. DJJ stocks the Hangcha range in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth and will recommend models that fit, or hire if that suits you better. Call 1800 355 388.
